Tremendous crystal clear glass console bowl with smart cantileavered edge by Swedish master designer Bengt Orup for Boda Afors circa 1959... 6-3/4" long, 6" wide, 2-1/2" deep, (17cm, 15cm, 6.5cm), well marked ( Johansfors Orup) and in superb condition -- a few scratches on the bottom as shown, otherwise great. Orup (1916-1996) trained as a painter in Paris in the late 1930s before becoming a glass designer and then director at Johansfors from 1951 to 1973... he was world renowned for his simple and subdued mastery of the art, which won his designs a place at the Corning Glass Museum Special exhibit of International Contemporary Glass in 1959.
