High-fired stoneware round vase in kaolin prefigures Otto’s (1915-2009) best late solo work and features beautiful pale yellow and copper red glazing -- quite the reverse of the classic Otto and Vivika ovoid raku (though equally symmetrical top to bottom). New Hampshire native and American studio legends, the Heino"s threw this piece in their Ojai, California studio probably in the early 90s, a few years before partner Vivika"s death, and it shows a total comfort with glaze experimentation only 50 years of collaboration can bring -- in just a few short years, Otto would finally perfect the elusive Chinese Yellow...
3-1/2" high, 4" wide and in great condition -- some fractures under glaze (see detail above right), but no post production problems.
