Accolay France Vase

Striking vase in earthenware with drip and spatter cobalt glaze on a yellow ground -- in imitation of Clichy glass I believe -- by the atelier Accolay in Bourgogne, France circa 1953... 23cm high (9-3/4"), well marked with artist signature "hl" and in superb condition -- no problems. The atelier Accolay was begun in 1945 by four young potters who studied under Vallauris master Alexandre Kostanda at his studios in Mašon, before setting up their own studios in the town of Accolay -- attracting visiting artists from around the world. Their unique masks, clay and wire animal forms, and these curious vases are all highly prized by French collectors of mid-Century modern ceramics. This I believe is an early piece of Accolay, with the early mark and artist chop.
