Mark Hewitt Teapot

Superb salt-glaze jug by North Carolina master William Mark Hewitt... 9-1/2" tall, 5-1/2" at the widest, impressed mark, mint condition. English-born Hewitt apprenticed under Michael Cardew from 1976 to 1979 at Wenford Bridge before moving to the US where he met his wife and decided to settle -- in Pittsboro, North Carolina, not far from Seagrove. Traditional salt glaze is his specialty, with forms drawn from traditional English and American folk precedents -- as in this sturdy 'Devon' handle.
